A Google Wave is coming...

Google Wave is going to be a communication and collaboration tool to potentially replace email / IM and more... I will keep you posted when I know more. At the moment it is just a developer preview.

Google Wave preview website says:
"What is Google Wave?
Google Wave is a product that helps users communicate and collaborate on the web. A "wave" is equal parts conversation and document, where users can almost instantly communicate and work together with richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more. Google Wave is also a platform with a rich set of open APIs that allow developers to embed waves in other web services and to build extensions that work inside waves."

This is the Google Wave logo that we will be seeing a lot more once it is launched:

Google Wave has a lot of potential to better our communication through the internet. The video shows it working through Google Chrome (where I would assume the best performance will be), Apple Safari and Mozilla Firefox. This proves universal compatability. This app really breaks new terrtory for your browser. A program that everyone can use on PC's, Mac's, Linux etc. That doesn't involve slow installations, taking up hard drive space or using unwanted services in the background like Google Desktop. You can drag and drop files to upload them to a 'wave' and when you are typing an instant message the keystrokes are transmitted live!!! This will be very impressive once it is released, from this build up Google Wave will be a Tsunami so I hope Google gets there servers ready for millions of users instantly transmitting keystrokes/IM/email/photos/third party app data.

Lily Allen will star in Neighbours!

Lily Allen who is currently at No. 7 in the UK Singles chart with 'Not Fair' is to star in the Australian soap 'Neighbours' which is shown on Five in the UK. It is confirmed on the shows webpage. They say:
A huge fan of Neighbours, apparently Lily wasted no time in accepting the offer to appear on the show where she will play herself in a scene alongside Matt Werkmeister, who is a huge Allen fan.

So the UK fans will have to wait ages for this episode as we are several weeks behind the Australian schedule. Watch out for adverts on Five closer to the time!

Social Networking Sites Keeping Deleted Photos

According to BBC News and Mashable social networking sites including facebook aren't the speediest at deleting photos that you have asked to be deleted. Despite the research done by Cambridge University students revealing the opposite the BBC News page quotes Facebook as saying:
Facebook says deleted photos are removed from its servers "immediately"
It seems social networking sites are all too keen to hoard as much information as possible.

Google launches TV ads

Google are advertising Google Chrome on TV the Telegraph have reported.

The video was originally intended for use on YouTube and here it is:

Google Chrome was previously mentioned on webwarp.co.uk when we reviewed Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2. Since then Microsoft have released the full version of IE8 and it is much faster than the Beta 2 and IE7 in my experience. It is to be included in automatic Microsoft Updates soon it has been reported.

Why are texts limited to 160 characters?

When text messaging was invented as a cross platform standard for mobile phones and pagers it was clear that a standard limit must be enforced due to the bandwidth restrictions. This was set at 160 characters and Twitter, being based on text messaging, is capped at 140 characters. This interesting article explains more: Click Here
